Breaking News: Chip Kelly Departs Ohio State to Join Raiders as Offensive Coordinator

Chip Kelly is departing from the national championship-winning Ohio State to make a comeback to the NFL as the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders, according to a report from ESPN on Sunday.

The 61-year-old Kelly only spent one season with the Buckeyes, which culminated in a 34-23 triumph over Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff national title game.

Quarterback Will Howard had a record of 5,786 yards and 48 touchdowns in 50 games over four years at Kansas State before transferring to Ohio State. With Kelly's guidance, Howard threw for 4,010 yards and 35 touchdowns in 16 games in 2024.

Kelly was previously a head coach in the NFL for four years, with a combined record of 28-35 with the Philadelphia Eagles (2013-15) and San Francisco 49ers (2016).

He also had a 10-year stint as a college head coach, achieving a record of 46-7 in four seasons at Oregon (2009-12) and 35-34 in six seasons at UCLA (2018-23).

The Raiders recently appointed former Seattle Seahawks and Southern California coach Pete Carroll as their new head coach.
