"Georgia Southern's Clay Helton Secures New Contract: A Report"
According to ESPN, Georgia Southern has reached an agreement for a new five-year contract with football coach Clay Helton on Wednesday.
The reported contract will be effective until the 2029 season and will include a salary increase to an average of $1 million per year.
In his three seasons as head coach, the 52-year-old Helton has led the Eagles to a 20-19 record and three bowl games.
Last season, Georgia Southern had a record of 8-5, with a 6-2 record in the Sun Belt Conference. The team's season ended with a 31-26 loss to Sam Houston in the New Orleans Bowl on December 19th.
Prior to joining Georgia Southern, Helton was the head coach at Southern California from 2013 to 2021, with a record of 46-24 and five bowl appearances during his tenure.
