Ex-Texas Wide Receiver Johntay Cook II Accused of Theft

Former University of Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook II was taken into custody on Tuesday morning for committing misdemeanors related to theft and obstructing public duties.

Cook, a highly sought-after recruit in the Class of 2023 from DeSoto, Texas, was being held at a correctional facility in Fort Worth, Texas, as stated in inmate intake records.

During the 2024 season, Cook left the Longhorns and joined the transfer portal. He initially announced his transfer to Washington on December 28, but later re-entered the portal on January 14.

Cook played in 20 games for Texas between 2023 and 2024, recording 16 receptions for 273 yards and two touchdowns. He scored both of his touchdowns in a dominant 56-7 victory against UTSA on September 14, 2024.
