Leonard Hamilton of Florida State to Step Down at Season's End

Florida State head coach Leonard Hamilton announced on Monday that he will be stepping down from his position at the end of this season.

At 76 years old, Hamilton has been coaching for 37 years, with 23 of those years spent at Florida State. He also had stints at Oklahoma State and Miami.

In a news release, Hamilton expressed his gratitude for the support of the fans, alumni, and everyone involved with Florida State. He also mentioned his pride in the players he has led and the success they have achieved.

The men's basketball program at Florida State had 22 wins from the 2006-07 season vacated due to an academic fraud scandal involving multiple sports.

Under Hamilton's leadership, Florida State has reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament four times, including an Elite Eight run in 2018. He also led Miami to the Sweet 16 in 2000.

According to the school, Hamilton has been named National Coach of the Year three times and has had 19 players drafted into the NBA.

However, the recent years have not been as successful for the Seminoles, as they have missed the NCAA Tournament for the past three seasons and are currently struggling with a 13-9 record.

In their last game, Florida State suffered a heartbreaking loss to Boston College after leading for most of the game.

The Seminoles will face Notre Dame on Tuesday.
