"Second Cortisone Injection Administered to Blue Jays' Right-Handed Pitcher Max Scherzer for Thumb Injury"

Recently, Toronto Blue Jays' right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer was given a second cortisone injection in his ailing right thumb, according to manager John Schneider's statement to reporters on Friday.

Schneider mentioned that this shot was administered to a different part of the thumb's joint. Despite the three-time Cy Young Award winner and eight-time All-Star rejoining the team for their upcoming road trip starting on Monday in Houston, he is still far from being ready to return to the field.

At the age of 40, Scherzer signed a one-year, $15.5 million contract with the Blue Jays in January. However, he only lasted three innings in his team debut on March 29, giving up two solo home runs in the first inning and three hits overall before being taken out due to inflammation in his right thumb.

Following a cortisone shot on March 31, Scherzer has been on the 15-day injured list since then.

Despite Scherzer's absence, Toronto has been performing well. As of Friday, the Jays hold a record of 11-8, ranking second in the American League East, and their team ERA of 3.38 is second best in the AL.
